Michael Vick’s dogs get death penalty

with 10 comments

Yeah, Vick pulled a plea out of his ass and yeah, I plan to crucify him properly now that he has admitted his guilt and I need no longer presume him innocent. Too bad the charges to which he plead had the least “teeth”. I guess it’s true when they say that you only get the legal defense you can afford. It makes me feel even more sorry for the poor motherfuckers who get sent up because their half-assed PDs were falling asleep or drinking Maker’s Mark from a flask in court.

The upshot of it all is this: Vick admitted guilt to Federal charges of conspiracy to engage in dogfighting activities. This is not the same as saying he actually participated in the fights when they occurred. This being the case, it doesn’t carry the same satisfaction as hearing him say he was actually there drowning and electrocuting dogs that didn’t make the grade. Still, Vick’s “conspiracy” resulted in many dogs being maimed, killed and possibly stolen (many “bait” animals are taken from residences and backyards.) While Vick’s kennels are closed and his dog-fighting ring is (at least partially) broken up, Vick’s “conspiracy” is likely to be the cause of dozens more senseless doggy deaths. Fifty–three dogs seized on Vick’s property are very likely to be put down for being either “unclaimed” or believed to be too dangerous to be adopted.

I was hoping that, if Vick were to be found “guilty”, that his punishment would be so severe that it would be a message to the other scum out there watching dogs tear each other apart every single fucking day in barns, warehouses and back alleys across this country. I still hold out hope that the atention this incident gets can still serve as a wake-up call to those who look at dogfighting as a “sport” or as “entertainment”. If you are such a person and need some perspective, sports in our free society are played by willing participants. There is always the possibility of serious injury and, in some extreme cases, death in most sporting events. However, dogfights are intended to result in serious injuries and death is almost a “bonus”. There was a time when unwilling participants forced to fight to the death for spectacle was considered “entertainment”–during the times of the Roman Empire. Now, we call it “barbarism”, or perhaps “sadism”. If you are a dogfighter, please try to view things from the dogs’ eyes. Give it up. If you want to see blood, guts and brutality, check out UFC or the Ontario Hockey League, ‘cuz you can’t go wrong either way!

If you’re with me on the whole Vick thing, you can still haunt him and his career by keeping the story alive. When he emerges from whatever prison time he ends up doing, he’ll likely try to pick his career up again. If we can keep the pressure on his team and the league, it’ll make things much more difficult. I can think of at least 4 professional football players who have been accused of animal cruelty (sometimes in the form of dogfighting) in recent years. I think that if this costs Vick the rest of his career, it will give pause to any other athletes currently considering doing this. Also, even though the federal investigation is over, there is still the possibilities of a trial on local charges and the internal National Football League investigation.

  1. You know, I don’t feel bad for the guys that got harsher sentences because of a shitty PD. I mean, they’re scum, so they deserved what they got … as a starting point.

I just get pissed when the -rich- scum don’t get the same shitty deal.

  2. I’d also just like to note that we’ve been getting a LOT of hits today off the following Google search terms:

    michael vick white man’s conspiracy

If you’re one of the sorry sacks of shit that thinks that’s actually the case … then fuck you. You are too stupid to be allowed to continue to live.

  3. Can’t agree with Jesse on the defective PDs. But if they’re truly all scum, then let’s open things up so no-one gets to hire a fancy-pants shyster. Equal justice for all, eh?

I don’t even like dogs, and the conduct of their owners seems to border sociopathy at times. But Vick deserves a prussic acid enema.

Perhaps if he’d had a less-moneyed lawyer he might be getting some real time. In a nasty, overcrowded hell-hole of a prison.

Then perhaps we could film his trip through the system and place bets on the outcome.

I forget, is that communism or socialism?

  6. I was speaking more about the shlubs that were not guilty but ended up doing time anyway because their court-appointed “defenders” were colossal fuckups.

  9. @ Toni Renee: Thanks for the comment. You know the prison term “dog-boy”? Prison justice is often rich in irony!
