  2. Thanks for the plug.
Ok I think this guys is saying that we have no souls, Because we used to fling doo-doo at each other…

To bad evoloution IS Doo-doo. There is no proof of a link between Us and Monkeys at all. That’s why it’s called missing. I’m not a christian & even I can see that.
The earth is in a exact spot in the universe, one inch in either direction & we’d all be dead. we are here for a reason.
If this talking cellphone is correct, we may as well fling doo-doo at each other because we have no purpose to exist.

  3. “…If this talking cellphone is correct, we may as well fling doo-doo at each other because we have no purpose to exist.”

Ironic statement, because it seems that doo-doo flinging is exactly what you are doing: evolution is doo-doo?

BTW, we are not classified as monkeys, we are classified as apes. Apes and monkeys both originate from a common ancestor (of this there is much evidence).

  4. The concept of evolution does run counter to the Second Law of Thermodynamics (Entropy) and, as such, it is very much open to scrutiny.

Also, this just occurred to me: what better website to question the nature of consciousness than “Ration Reality”?

  5. Uhhh … No, dude. It doesn’t. The trend toward equilibrium is only present in a closed system, i.e., one where no outside source of energy exists.

Fortunately, earth -has- a source of outside energy. It’s called … oh, damn, what is that thing. You know, the big fusion reactor in the sky? The sun! That’s it! The sun!

  6. Jesse, you beat me to it! Although I like to think anything is open to scrutiny, and it *was* interesting to read all the Creationist pseudoscience using that whole Second Law thing to “disprove” evolution. I’d never heard that one before.

  8. @ Jesse: The last time I checked, the universe was a closed system. To quote the First Law of Thermodynamics: “For all processes, the total energy of the universe remains constant.”

  9. Yes, the universe is a closed system. It is trending toward equilibrium … eventually. The amount of time it will take for that to happen, for the energy death of the entire fucking universe to occur, is so long that our puny little minds simply cannot conceive of it.

Compared to that amount of time, the length it took for some blue-green algae to turn into primates with an over-inflated ego and a very pretentious view of their importance in the grand scheme of things … ? Yeah, that’s nothing at all.

Also, while the universe itself may be a closed system, the Earth, and its associated biosphere, is very emphatically -not-.

  10. There is no artificial barrier isolating the Earth from the rest of the universe. But if there were, it would be a closed system and the 2nd Law would apply as stated.

  11. … right … I think … because there -is- no barrier between the Earth and the rest of the universe … so the Earth is NOT a closed system … so evolution does not violate the second law … etc., etc., etc.

Dude. You can’t come to this discussion with nothing more than Kent Hovind in your corner.
